Biographical Sketch

For as long as I came remember, I always wanted to be an elementary teacher. One of my favorite childhood games growing up was playing “school,” and I was always the teacher. As I got older, I babysat every opportunity I had because I loved being around children. I loved playing games and doing activities with them, and I never viewed babysitting as a job.

I went off to school, and began my college education at the University of Scranton in the fall of 2004. Even though I had always wanted to be a teacher, I had been talked into a getting a degree that would help me land a corporate job so that I would have a more financially secure future. My dreams of teaching faded away as I focused on obtaining a degree in Communications. In December of 2007 I graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Communications.

After graduating, I began a career in Corporate Communications with Comcast Corporation. I felt very accomplished and proud of the job I landed with a Fortune 500 company, however there was something missing; I didn’t love my job. I came to the realization that the intrinsic rewards of your job are more important than the extrinsic rewards. As a result, I decided to become what I had always wanted to be – a teacher. I applied to the graduate program to get my Masters of Science in Elementary Education from Holy Family University in winter of 2009. I began taking classes in May of 2009, and will continue taking classes year round for the next two years. My dream is now in sight and I am so excited to be on my way to becoming a teacher.
